The upper half of this figure shows two fields that are ubiquitous throughout the entire universe. One is space, and the other is time. The upper word "大物" means "great object," and the lower word "小物" means "small object." As a term in Baien's thought, "great object" indicates the cosmic scale, while "small object" indicates the global scale, where organisms on the earth exist. Baien thought that the space-field, drawn in the second quadrant, diffuses material things as far as the celestial sphere, and that the time-field, drawn in the first quadrant, changes all objects throughout the universe. By this reasoning, he placed the two areas, time and space, in non-material domains within the material domain. His logical and systematic thinking is innovative and astonishing. In particular, when a word belongs to different files, the same character may have an entirely different meaning. This is mainly due to a lack of character resources, not to Baien's misuse of words. Writing Gengo was a series of efforts to describe a world that no one had ever seen. When he began writing his ideas, he had only the traditional vocabulary and grammar of the empirical world. These were the only two tools he could use when he began his work. But they lacked the resources needed to explain his concept. Therefore, he devised more than 150 diagrams. Surprisingly, these were the world's first Windows system. Baien struggled to describe a world no one had ever seen by using only these three tools.
