The former means the present, and the latter indicates time extending from the far end of the past to the far end of the future. The character "位" in the third quadrant is divided into "中" and "外." The former means a point, and the latter means infinite outer space. These two form a dual pair. The picture below corresponds to each character.  The upper picture is the correct one.
